
Artificial intelligence can accelerate business processes and decisions, but its adoption does not depend solely on adopting new tools. In a virtual debate organized by The Open Group and TheBlueprint.mx, Juan Tamez, CIO of UVM, and specialist Verny Vargas analyzed the obstacles that keep the effective application of Enterprise Architecture in Mexican organizations limited.
The central point is operational: Enterprise Architecture allows relating an organization's strategy to its processes, data, applications and technology. That connection is relevant to scale AI projects sustainably, because it helps define priorities, order dependencies, and link technology investments to concrete business outcomes.
The problem is not only technological
Although it is a mature discipline, its real adoption remains limited. One of the main obstacles identified during the conversation was the difficulty technical professionals have in explaining the value of architecture to senior management.
When the conversation focuses on frameworks, diagrams, or technological components, the question guiding an investment can be lost: what business problem will be solved, what capability will be strengthened, and how will the result be measured. Without that translation, Enterprise Architecture risks being perceived as a documentary or bureaucratic function.
From technical complexity to strategic decisions
The challenge for technology architects is to turn operational complexity into decisions understandable for CEOs, CFOs, operations, and technology leaders. This implies showing how a given architecture can influence efficiency, operational continuity, systems integration, and the ability to adopt new solutions.
The need for that common language also appears in the day-to-day management of companies. When sales, customer service, inventory, e-commerce, and campaigns operate in separate systems, information fragments and it is difficult to turn data into coordinated actions.
