From Using AI to Improving Processes: The Challenge of Aligning Strategy and Execution

At the Microsoft Frontier Tour in Mexico, Work Trend Index 2026 data showed a gap between individuals’ AI capabilities and leadership alignment. To turn adoption into operational changes, companies need to connect goals, owners, tasks, and follow-up.

From Using AI to Improving Processes: The Challenge of Aligning Strategy and Execution

In Mexico, 67% of surveyed artificial intelligence users say they can now perform tasks they couldn’t do a year ago, but only 28% feel that leadership is clearly aligned on translating these capabilities into new ways of working. This gap was one of the central topics at the Microsoft Frontier Tour held in Mexico City.

The gap matters because adopting a tool does not, by itself, transform the way an organization works. For new capabilities to become part of operations, teams need shared goals, defined processes, clear owners, and ways to review results. Technology can support this work; direction and decisions still depend on people.

The challenge: moving from individual adoption to operations

The Work Trend Index 2026 percentages describe the perceptions of AI users; they are not a measure of productivity gains across all Mexican companies. Even so, they point to a specific tension: while some people are expanding what they can do, organizations still need to decide how to integrate these capabilities into their processes and how to oversee the work.

Without a shared method, each department may set different priorities and criteria. Information becomes scattered, tasks lose continuity, and it becomes harder to know who should act or what comes next. In that scenario, adding tools can increase activity without solving the coordination problem.

The evidence: connecting goals, tasks, and follow-up

An orderly implementation starts with a specific process and an outcome that can be evaluated. The team can define which task it wants to improve, who is responsible, which steps require human review, and which indicators will make it possible to compare performance before and after. This allows the organization to distinguish between using a tool and achieving a verifiable operational change.

At Onix Board, we offer an ecosystem that connects information, tasks, and automations, with features for organizing team work and tracking operations. These capabilities can help keep progress and responsibilities visible; they do not replace the need to set priorities or, by themselves, guarantee better results.

Leadership retains a central role: defining the expected outcome, setting quality criteria, and determining when a person should review or make a decision. Measuring time, errors, and service quality provides a more useful basis for deciding whether to adjust or expand a workflow.

From a tool to verifiable change

The opportunity for companies is not simply to adopt AI, but to organize how it is applied and evaluate what changes in operations. By connecting goals, owners, tasks, and follow-up, teams can turn individual capabilities into shared practices.
